Tippi Hedren made a rare public appearance with her family in Los Angeles to celebrate her 96th birthday. The iconic actress from “The Birds” was photographed leaving her daughter Melanie Griffith’s home, assisted by guests as she navigated the stairs. Hedren arrived wearing an embroidered black jacket and purple top but changed into a patterned sweater later in the evening.
Reports in 2024 suggested Hedren is battling dementia after Spanish journalist Gustavo Egusquiza was informed she could no longer participate in interviews due to memory loss affecting her ability to recall her career. Her representative did not respond to requests for comment on the claims.
Earlier this year, Griffith shared an upbeat Instagram tribute for her mother’s birthday, calling her “happy, healthy, and feisty,” alongside footage of Hedren blowing out candles. Hedren rose to fame after being discovered by Alfred Hitchcock, starring in his classics “The Birds” (1963) and “Marnie” (1964), earning a Golden Globe for New Star of the Year.
In her 2016 memoir “Tippi,” Hedren accused Hitchcock of sexual harassment, alleging he stalked her home, demanded inappropriate contact, and once attempted to forcibly kiss her in his limousine. Her granddaughter Dakota Johnson later condemned Hitchcock in 2021, stating he “ruined” Hedren’s career by blacklisting her after she rejected his advances and was never held accountable.
