Billie Lourd honored her mother, Carrie Fisher, on the ninth anniversary of her passing with a heartfelt tribute. Sharing a nostalgic photo featuring Fisher and her father, Bryan Lourd, the actor reflected on her enduring grief intertwined with newfound joy through motherhood.
“It has been nine years since my mom died,” Lourd wrote, noting a recent moment of happiness she shared with her 3-year-old daughter, Jackson. “This joy wouldn’t be possible without my mom. She may not be physically here, but she’s part of the reason for it—lives on through this joy.”
She described her evolving grief as taking “many shapes,” now expressed through her children’s laughter with their grandfather, Bryan, shown alongside current and throwback photos taken in the same room 25 years apart. “Grief is never just one thing,” she added, embracing its “bittersweet grieful joy.”
Lourd included her mother’s poignant words: “Nothing is ever really over. Just over there.” She emphasized Fisher’s enduring presence in her family: “My mombys life isn’t really over. Just over there—in my kids and in this joy.”
Fisher, known for her role as Princess Leia in Star Wars, died in 2016 at age 60 following cardiac arrest. Her mother, Debbie Reynolds, died a day later at 84. An autopsy revealed Fisher had cocaine, heroin traces, and other substances in her system—a consequence of lifelong struggles with addiction and mental health, which Lourd has acknowledged.
The Scream Queens star has since welcomed two children with husband Austen Rydell—son Kingston, born in 2020, and daughter Jackson, born in 2022. In past tributes, Lourd shared her mother’s warmth lingering in cherished moments, like holding her infant daughter on Fisher’s death anniversary. She vowed, “I will never stop missing you.”
