Dax Shepard took Cher’s blunt remarks about his marriage to Kristen Bell in stride. During an interview with Access Hollywood at the 2026 Golden Globes, Shepard revealed he and Bell fully anticipated Cher’s opinion that Bell “deserves a better husband,” finding the singer’s candor hilarious. “That’s why you love Cher, which couldn’t be greater,” he quipped, calling the comments “hysterical” in a separate chat with Entertainment Tonight.
Shepard joked that Bell jokingly served him divorce papers after Cher’s critique, which arose during her appearance on his “Armchair Expert” podcast. When he asked Cher who might be a “dream partner” for Bell, the 79-year-old icon sidestepped naming anyone but acknowledged her trust in Bell’s judgment, adding, “You must have something I don’t see.” Shepard agreed no one would ever be “good enough” for his wife but emphasized he celebrates her success: “The shinier she gets, the better.”
Bell jumped in to praise Shepard as a “slow burn” partner who’s “almost too good” for her. Cher also complimented his parenting of their two daughters, Lincoln and Delta.
The couple’s history with Cher dates back to Bell’s role in 2010’s “Burlesque,” filmed during her engagement to Shepard. They married in 2013 but faced backlash last October when Bell marked their anniversary with an ill-timed joke referencing domestic violence, posted during Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Shepard’s past quip about “heavily incentivized” spousal harm resurfaced, though neither addressed the criticism publicly.
