A woman dressed in Prada and designer brands, posing as a social media influencer to enjoy lavish meals without paying, has allegedly scammed multiple upscale New York City restaurants, according to police. Pei Chung, 34, from Brooklyn—who showcases luxury items like Louis Vuitton bags and Hermès belts on Instagram—has been arrested five times since late October for skipping bills at high-end spots such as Peter Luger and Francie in Williamsburg. She reportedly photographed dishes like Colorado lamb from Michelin-starred Francie and marbled steak from Peter Luger, posting them to her 13,000 followers as if hired for promotion.
At Peter Luger, Chung allegedly hid in the restroom to evade payment and even offered sexual favors to a waiter to settle her $146 tab. Staff called police after she refused to pay, leading to her arrest. A manager noted her “tiny hands” made handcuffing difficult during the arrest.
Francie co-owner John Winterman stated Chung arrived at his restaurant on October 22, ordering over $180 worth of food, including foie gras and lamb, then tried to barter Instagram posts instead of paying. Her credit cards were declined, and she claimed she was waiting for family funds. When she returned weeks later and refused to pay another $88 bill, staff called authorities. Police recognized her on sight, arresting her at the bar as unfazed diners continued their meals.
Chung also allegedly skipped payments at Williamsburg’s Lavender Lake ($97) and Motorino Pizza ($135), leading to additional arrests. Despite the allegations, her Instagram praised meals like Peter Luger’s steak, describing its “caramelized crust” and “fat [that] melts like silk.” Restaurant staff expressed shock at her boldness, comparing her brazen tactics to the infamous “Bling Ring” thieves. Chung, who lives in a waterfront luxury building, did not respond to requests for comment.
