Former Little Mix member Jesy Nelson has shared devastating news about her twin daughters. The 34-year-old singer revealed in an emotional Instagram video that her 8-month-old twins, Ocean Jade and Story Monroe, have been diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 1 – a rare neuromuscular disorder.
Through tears, Nelson explained doctors told her the girls “probably never will be able to walk” or regain neck strength, meaning they’ll live with significant disabilities. She described SMA as “the most severe muscular disease that a baby can get,” with no existing cure. Nelson emphasized that while therapies can help manage symptoms, she’s now required to use breathing machines and perform other intensive care routines for her daughters.
The singer credited her mother for first noticing red flags when the twins showed reduced leg movement. Though the girls were born premature after a high-risk pregnancy, doctors initially reassured Nelson and fiancé Zion Foster, 27, that the infants were healthy. Nelson later observed worsening feeding difficulties before receiving the diagnosis.
She urged other parents who notice similar symptoms to seek immediate medical attention: “Time is of the essence… the quicker you get this, the better their life will be.” The twins were born on May 15, 2025, after which Nelson had stepped back from public attention following career-related criticism.
