In 2025, the entertainment world mourned the loss of legendary actors, musicians, and public figures. This retrospective honors the celebrities who passed away throughout the year.

December Losses

The final month of the year saw the passing of James Ransone (46), known for his role in “The Wire”; his death was confirmed as a suicide. A tragic plane crash in North Carolina claimed the lives of former NASCAR driver Greg Biffle, his wife Cristina, and their two children.

Legendary “General Hospital” star Anthony Geary (78) died following surgical complications, while Australian actress Rachael Carpani (45) passed away after a long illness. The R&B community lost Carl Carlton (72), famous for “She’s a Bad Mama Jama.” In a shocking tragedy, director Rob Reiner (78) and his wife Michele (68) were victims of a fatal stabbing in their Los Angeles home. Other December losses included “Pulp Fiction” actor Peter Greene (60), voice actor Jeff Garcia (50), “Shopaholic” author Sophie Kinsella (55), and Blues Brothers guitarist Steve Cropper (84).

November Losses

The music world lost rapper Poorstacy (26) and reggae icon Jimmy Cliff (81), the latter of whom died from pneumonia. Ethan Browne (52), son of Jackson Browne, and Joan Templeman (80), wife of Richard Branson, also passed away.

International tributes poured in for Italian singer Ornella Vanoni (91) and Prince’s bandmate Jellybean Johnson (69). Other notable deaths included songwriter Todd Snider (59), Hollywood icon Sally Kirkland (84), rapper Young Bleed (51), and Oscar-winning actress Diane Ladd (89).

October Losses

October marked the passing of “The Fresh Prince” actor Floyd Roger Myers Jr. (42) and Jamar Champ (38), the estranged husband of Masika Kalysha. British comedy lost “Fawlty Towers” star Prunella Scales (93), while TV legend June Lockhart reached the age of 100 before her passing. The month also saw the deaths of Dave Ball (66) of Soft Cell, Limp Bizkit bassist Sam Rivers (48), and KISS founding member Ace Frehley (74). Soul star D’Angelo (51) died after a battle with pancreatic cancer, and film icon Diane Keaton (79) passed away from pneumonia.

September & August Losses

In September, the world lost renowned conservationist Jane Goodall (91) and SYTYCD winner Joshua Allen (36). Tragic accidents claimed members of the Putman family and country songwriter Brett James. Screen legend Robert Redford (89) died in his sleep, and “Alice” star Polly Holliday (88) also passed away.

August departures included “The Sopranos” actor Jerry Adler (96), “Get Smart” star David Ketchum (97), and “General Hospital” veteran Tristan Rogers (79). The world also said goodbye to “What’s Happening!!” star Danielle Spencer (60) and Brandon Blackstock (48), the ex-husband of Kelly Clarkson, following a cancer battle.

July & Early Year Departures

July saw the loss of major icons, including wrestling legend Hulk Hogan (71), rock star Ozzy Osbourne (76), and “The Cosby Show” alum Malcolm-Jamal Warner (54), who died in a drowning accident. Actors Julian McMahon (56) and Michael Madsen (67) also passed away this month.

Earlier in the year, the world mourned Beach Boys founder Brian Wilson (82) and funk pioneer Sly Stone (82). May saw the passing of “MASH” star Loretta Swit (87), “Cheers” actor George Wendt (76), and “Duck Dynasty” patriarch Phil Robertson (79).

In April, Pope Francis died at 88 after a battle with pneumonia. Other notable early-year losses included actor Val Kilmer (65), game show host Wink Martindale (91), boxing great George Foreman (76), and David Lynch (78). The year began with the loss of Wayne Osmond (73) on New Year’s Day.
