Jamie Lynn Spears sparked controversy with her Christmas gift to her eldest daughter, Maddie, this year. The 34-year-old actress gifted her 17-year-old a red Honda FourTrax Rancher 4×4 ATV — nearly a decade after Maddie survived a life-threatening ATV accident.

Photos and videos from the family’s holiday celebrations, shared on Instagram, featured the new vehicle adorned with a red bow and a “Maddie!” sign. In one clip, Maddie smiled while sitting on the ATV with her 7-year-old half-sister, Ivey, behind her. Jamie Lynn captioned the post, “Merry CHRISTMAS🎄✨❤️🩷💚,” to which Maddie playfully commented, “wow you did me so dirty.” Jamie Lynn replied, “I can’t win here,” though the context remained unclear.

The gift raised eyebrows due to Maddie’s history with ATVs. In February 2017, then 8-year-old Maddie was involved in a near-fatal accident while riding a Polaris ATV in Louisiana. The vehicle flipped into a pond after she overcorrected to avoid a ditch, leaving her trapped underwater and unconscious. Emergency responders rescued her, and she spent critical days on a ventilator before making a full recovery.

Maddie addressed the incident for the first time in an August YouTube video, calling herself “very accident-prone” and expressing gratitude for her recovery: “I was in a coma, and I came back to life, and I’m very blessed.” She also defended her parents, stating, “They did not do anything to me.”
