John Mellencamp revealed he’s providing daily support to his daughter Teddi Mellencamp Arroyave as she undergoes treatment for stage 4 cancer. The 74-year-old musician shared that Teddi, a former “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star, has faced immense challenges over the past year, including 10 non-cancerous lesions in her brain’s frontal lobe that still impact her cognitive function. While some lesions have been surgically removed, Teddi continues radiation therapy for the remaining ones.
Mellencamp emphasized that although there’s currently no detectable cancer, Teddi isn’t “home free.” She’ll require ongoing immunotherapy for an uncertain number of years to manage her condition. These treatments leave her feeling unwell for days afterward. Teddi confirmed her ongoing struggle with PTSD related to her health ordeal on her podcast.
Her cancer journey began with a stage 2 melanoma diagnosis in 2022, leading to over 15 surgeries. In February 2023, Teddi underwent emergency brain surgery after tumors were discovered, facing a 50% survival chance at the time. While her stage 4 cancer—which had spread to her lungs—was declared “gone” by October 2023, Teddi clarified she isn’t considered in remission until she reaches the three-year mark. Despite her father’s encouragement to relocate from Los Angeles to Indiana, Teddi has chosen to remain on the West Coast during her treatment.
