Gayle King read a statement from Brown’s assistant during the show, which emphasized his ongoing message of protecting one’s mental well-being. The note explained his absence was due to avoiding situations that could harm his “peace.” King also revealed Brown was “worried about being bullied,” though no further details were provided.
Brown’s co-stars expressed surprise at his decision. Porowski called it a “fair understatement,” acknowledging the complexities of their nearly decade-long “family” dynamic but emphasizing their focus on celebrating the show’s legacy. Van Ness, however, voiced support, stating he was “proud” of Brown for prioritizing his needs and practicing self-care.
The incident follows recent fan speculation about tension among the cast after Brown unfollowed France, Porowski, and van Ness on Instagram ahead of Season 10’s premiere.
