Kate Beckinsale shared an emotional message addressing her recent weight loss, calling it a “physical result of grief” during a difficult year. She revealed losing her stepfather, Roy Battersby, and mother, Judy Loe, in quick succession through an Instagram video.
The actress explained her slim figure stems from trauma rather than disordered eating, stating, “My body has closed down… Watching loved ones suffer horrific deaths takes away your appetite.” She dismissed comparisons to anorexia, describing her experience as shock-induced rather than willpower-driven.
Beckinsale criticized followers who left harsh comments about her appearance while she’s openly grieving: “It wouldn’t cross my mind to be cruel to someone transparently suffering.” She expressed pride in maintaining compassion inherited from her parents, refusing to mirror her critics’ behavior.
This isn’t the first time she’s addressed body-shaming—she previously clapped back at bikini photo critics in July, writing, “I’m going through one of the most painful times of my life,” and in January advised critics to “keep opinions about others’ bodies to yourself.”
Her stepfather died from a stroke in January 2024, followed by her mother’s cancer battle ending in July 2025.
