Meghan Trainor is unbothered by critics of her decision to welcome her third child via surrogate. The singer welcomed daughter Mikey over the weekend and defended her choice in a statement to People, calling surrogacy “another beautiful way to build a family” that’s “rooted in trust, science, love, and teamwork.”

Trainor, 32, emphasized that while surrogacy wasn’t the “first choice” for her and husband Daryl Sabara, it became the safest medical option to expand their family after consulting doctors. The couple are already parents to sons Riley, 4, and Barry, 2.

The Grammy winner publicly thanked her “selfless, strong and loving” surrogate, praising their connection throughout the journey and describing the surrogate’s care as “the greatest gift.” Trainor shared hospital photos on Instagram, announcing their daughter’s arrival on January 18, 2026, and revealing that Riley and Barry chose Mikey’s middle name, Moon.

Trainor experienced medical challenges during her two prior pregnancies – PTSD from an emergency C-section with her first child and gestational diabetes during her second pregnancy. These health issues later inspired her weight loss journey, which included dietary changes, exercise, and medication. Sabara, 33, also used weight-loss medication in solidarity, noting they “do everything together.”

The couple, who married in 2018 after meeting in 2016, are known for their unconventional habits like using adjacent toilets. Trainor concluded her message by stating every family’s journey is unique and valid, focusing on enjoying time with their newborn daughter.
