Russell Brand has been hit with additional charges of rape and sexual abuse following new allegations from two women. On Tuesday, the Metropolitan Police confirmed that the 50-year-old comedian is facing one count of rape and one count of sexual assault in connection with these claims.
Detective Chief Inspector Tariq Farooqi stated that the women involved are receiving assistance from specialist officers. He noted that the investigation is still active and encouraged anyone with relevant information to contact the authorities. Brand is expected to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in January 2026 to address these specific new charges.
These latest legal developments follow previous charges filed eight months ago, which included rape, oral rape, sexual assault, and indecent assault involving four other women. Those initial allegations date back to incidents reportedly occurring between 1999 and 2005.
Brand has consistently denied all accusations of misconduct. In a past social media video, he admitted to being “promiscuous” in his youth but maintained that all of his sexual encounters were consensual.
The police investigation into Brand gained momentum in 2023 following a joint media expose by The Sunday Times and Channel 4’s “Dispatches.” Previous allegations against the actor include a claim of rape at his Los Angeles residence in 2012 and an accusation of an emotionally abusive relationship with a 16-year-old girl while he was in his 30s.
Brand’s trial for the primary set of charges is currently scheduled to take place at Southwark Crown Court in June 2026. Representatives for the comedian have not yet provided a statement regarding the most recent charges.
