Rachael Ray opened up about enduring multiple personal tragedies, expressing gratitude despite her recent hardships. The celebrity chef faced devastating losses over the past two years, including the destruction of her New York City apartment during Hurricane Ida and a chimney fire that burned down her Lake Luzerne home in 2020. She also mourned the death of her beloved dog, Isaboo, earlier that year.
In an interview with Extra, Ray shared mixed emotions, recalling holding Isaboo during her final moments: “I felt guilty and grateful at the same time—so many people lost loved ones during COVID without being able to say goodbye.” She emphasized how the pandemic reshaped her perspective on loss, calling her property damage “just life” and acknowledging others who faced similar misfortunes.
After the fire, Ray thanked first responders on social media, writing, “Grateful that my mom, my husband, my dog… we’re all okay. These are the days we all have to be grateful for what we have, not what we’ve lost.”
Now rebuilding her life, Ray’s talk show has returned for its 16th season following a nearly two-year hiatus. The new studio draws inspiration from her upstate home, embracing a cozy, relaxed vibe. “They turned it more into what my real life is like,” she told ET, noting her shift from formal attire to sneakers and jeans. “I’m never dressing up again.”
As construction continues on her Lake Luzerne house, Ray and her family are staying in the guesthouse—a testament to resilience amid life’s unexpected challenges.
