Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. attribute their longstanding 23-year marriage to maintaining separate bathrooms. The 48-year-old actress reiterated this unconventional secret during the premiere of “Star Search” on Tuesday, echoing comments she initially made on the “Today” show in June 2025, where she insisted, “It’s that simple.”

Her co-judge Chrissy Teigen agreed, telling E! News that such small boundaries help “preserve the sexy” in relationships. Teigen humorously added that her husband, John Legend, remains oblivious to certain less-glamorous realities: “For all he knows, I have never farted or pooped.” The couple, married since 2013, share four children: Luna, 9, Miles, 7, Esti, 3, and Wren, 2. Gellar and Prinze Jr., wed since 2002, have two kids: Charlotte, 16, and Rocky, 13.

The pair met while co-starring in 1997’s “I Know What You Did Last Summer” but began dating three years later. When Gellar first discussed their bathroom arrangement last year, comedian Tiffany Haddish suggested another retro tactic: twin beds that can be pushed together or apart for intimacy or space. Gellar called the idea “really good.”

In 2024, Gellar emphasized the effort required for lasting relationships, criticizing society’s “disposable” mindset. “Your phone breaks, you don’t fix it. You get a new one,” she told Fox News Digital. “And I think that’s a lot of the attitude toward relationships.”
