Following the sudden cancellation of TLC concerts in New York and Connecticut, the 54-year-old singer took to Instagram to address the speculation and clarify the nature of her medical emergency.
Last weekend, a statement revealed that Watkins had been hospitalized for a “severe abdominal blockage” after experiencing intense nausea and cramping. While some social media users quickly attributed the symptoms to side effects of weight-loss injections, Watkins was quick to set the record straight. “Everybody and every celeb ain’t on Ozempic,” she stated, expressing frustration over the “disheartening” ignorance and negativity she encountered online.
The singer explained that her condition was actually the result of scar tissue from a surgery she underwent 24 years ago. She noted that such complications can affect any woman who has had procedures like C-sections or fibroid removals. Watkins admitted she was uncomfortable with how much detail regarding her private medical life was shared publicly, but felt it was necessary to explain the missed performances.
Despite the ordeal, Watkins reassured fans that she is on the mend. Having been out of the hospital for several days, she confirmed she is back to work and feeling “blessed,” concluding that “life is great.” Fans and supporters have also pointed to her lifelong battle with sickle cell disease as a reason for compassion rather than judgment during her recovery.
