A Roundup of Political Deceptions and Delusions
The Claim:
Rep. LaMonica McIver recently asserted that ICE agents provoked a “dangerous and unnecessary” clash during the arrest of Newark Mayor Ras Baraka.
The Reality:
ICE personnel were simply fulfilling their duties. The volatility was actually sparked by Mayor Baraka and Rep. McIver, who attempted to lead a mob of protesters into the Delaney Hall detention center. This left federal agents with no option but to take them into custody. Furthermore, McIver is now facing felony charges for allegedly physically assaulting and obstructing federal officers during the scuffle. She is responsible for her own predicament.
The Claim:
Stacey Abrams recently boasted that Republicans are upset with her because she has proven that “democracy can deliver.”
The Reality:
It is unclear what exactly Abrams has delivered. Her political resume consists primarily of two unsuccessful bids for Governor of Georgia. She has managed to maintain relevance by claiming her 2018 loss was illegitimate, earning her a celebrity-style cameo as “President of Earth” on Star Trek. Additionally, a green energy non-profit she is affiliated with secured a $2 billion federal grant. Despite a lack of tangible legislative or executive achievements, Abrams continues to promote her thin record at every opportunity.
The Claim:
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson recently stated that his city was “attacked” by the Governor of Texas.
The Reality:
Governor Greg Abbott did not force Chicago to adopt sanctuary city status; that was a choice made by Chicago’s own leadership. These officials only began complaining about the immigration crisis when it reached their doorsteps. If Johnson is looking for someone to blame for “attacking” his city, he should look to the Biden administration’s border policies, which left border states overwhelmed long before migrants were sent north. Johnson is simply upset that he is now dealing with the consequences of his own party’s decisions.
The Claim:
In a recent campaign advertisement, Andrew Cuomo suggested that if Donald Trump opposes his mayoral run, then voters should support it.
The Reality:
This is an incredible display of political spin. Cuomo is currently under federal investigation for allegedly misleading Congress regarding nursing home fatalities during the pandemic. Rather than addressing his record—which includes controversial climate mandates, bail reform that impacted crime rates, and his handling of COVID-19—he is attempting to distract voters by positioning himself as the ultimate “anti-Trump” candidate. It is a cynical strategy to avoid accountability for his past actions.
