Ashley St. Clair responded to Elon Musk’s threat to sue for full custody of their son, Romulus, after she addressed rumors about transitioning their one-year-old boy. Speaking to CNN’s Erin Burnett, St. Clair declined to elaborate but hinted her intended message was clear to those with “more than a third-grade reading comprehension level.” Musk’s threat followed St. Clair’s public apology for past anti-transgender remarks, which a critic labeled “blatant transphobia.”
In her apology, St. Clair expressed regret for harmful comments that may have affected Musk’s transgender daughter, Vivian Wilson, stating she is working privately to “advocate for those within the trans community.” After a social media user accused her of endorsing “trans grooming,” Musk claimed he would seek custody, citing her “statements implying she might transition” their child.
St. Clair revealed Romulus as Musk’s 13th child in February 2025, criticizing the billionaire for not publicly acknowledging paternity. She later sued for sole custody, alleging Musk slashed child support payments and offered her $15 million to keep their son private. Amid their legal battle, St. Clair disclosed she faced eviction last summer. Musk shares his 14 children with four women.
