Colman expressed deep appreciation for the LGBTQIA+ community, calling it welcoming and noting she feels “at home and at ease” within it. She stated that she doesn’t strongly identify with traditional femininity, explaining, “I’ve never felt massively feminine in my being female.” Her husband reportedly understands this perspective, responding positively when she describes herself as a gay man.
The actress, married to Sinclair since 2001 and mother to three children, discussed how their relationship dynamic involves alternating supporting roles. She emphasized her belief that everyone contains multitudes beyond conventional gender norms.
In “Jimpa,” Colman portrays a filmmaker navigating family relationships with her nonbinary teenage daughter (Aud Mason-Hyde) and gay father (John Lithgow). While acknowledging her heterosexual marriage makes her an outsider in some respects, Colman noted drawing parallels to her character through her frequent involvement with queer communities in her personal life.
