Patrick Mahomes Sr., father of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes II, was arrested Tuesday in Tyler, Texas, for allegedly violating his probation. Jail records show the 55-year-old was booked into Smith County Jail at 11:24 a.m. local time.
According to authorities, Mahomes Sr.’s ankle monitor reportedly registered high alcohol levels on January 1. While subsequent urine tests on January 5 and 9 came back negative, a motion has been filed to review the alcohol reading allegation, with Mahomes Sr. retaining the right to challenge the charges.
This arrest stems from a 2024 DWI arrest where Mahomes Sr. recorded a 0.23 blood alcohol content – nearly three times the legal limit. He received five years’ probation in September 2024 for that offense, with potential prison time of up to 10 years for violations. Mahomes Sr. has three prior DWI arrests, including a 2018 case that resulted in 40 days of weekend jail time.
The 2024 arrest occurred days before his son’s Super Bowl appearance. At the time, Mahomes II described it as “a family matter” and stated his father was “doing good.” Later in ESPN’s “The Kingdom” documentary, the quarterback revealed the incident motivated his father to change, saying the experience “hurt me” and served as a wake-up call. Mahomes Sr. called it his “most embarrassing” moment and apologized for distracting his son.
As of now, Patrick Mahomes II has not publicly commented on his father’s latest arrest.
