Sydney Sweeney paid homage to Marilyn Monroe at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival by wearing a vintage Ceil Chapman gown previously donned by the Hollywood icon. The figure-hugging cream dress, featuring ruching details, three-quarter sleeves, and an off-the-shoulder neckline, echoed Monroe’s appearance on the April 1952 cover of Life magazine—her first of many for the publication. Sweeney accessorized with a glittering brooch, diamond ring, and bow-trimmed Ferragamo pumps, mirroring Monroe’s original styling.
The gown’s designer, Ceil Chapman, was renowned for dressing mid-century stars like Elizabeth Taylor and Eva Gabor, often emphasizing curves through expert draping. Sweeney’s choice continues her recent streak of Monroe-inspired fashion: In December, she wore a custom Galia Lahav halter gown reminiscent of Monroe’s iconic “Seven Year Itch” dress, and in November, she debuted a vintage-wave bob at the Governors Awards, evoking the star’s “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” era.
Beyond the festival, Sweeney promoted her lingerie brand, Syrn, via a dressing-room selfie showcasing branded stickers. The next day, she joined American Eagle Outfitters’ CEO at the New York Stock Exchange, wearing a denim ensemble tied to her successful but controversial “Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans” campaign, launched in July 2025. Much like Monroe’s Life cover proclaiming her “the talk of Hollywood,” Sweeney now commands similar buzz.
